Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) claimed on Sunday that Republicans blocked Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee from investigating alleged money laundering by the Russians through the Trump Organization as possible compromising material Russia has on President Donald Trump.
Trump’s refusal to defend America on Monday as he sided with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin over our own intelligence agencies who have concluded that Russia attacked the 2016 election made Americans across the country wonder even louder if Russia has compromising information on Trump that he is desperate to keep hidden.
During an interview with George Stephanopoulos, Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, revealed that Republicans on the committee blocked an effort to find out if the Russians are laundering money through the Trump Organization. If that is happening, then the Russians could be using that crime to manipulate Trump.
“I certainly think he’s acting like someone who’s compromised, and it may very well be that he is compromised or it may very well be that he believes that he’s compromised, that the Russians have information on him,” Schiff said.
“We were not permitted to look into one of the allegations that was most serious to me, and that is were the Russians laundering money through the Trump Organization?” he continued. “The Republicans wouldn’t allow us to go near that.”
Schiff expressed hope that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the money laundering allegations because “if that’s the leverage the Russians are using, it would not only explain the president’s behavior, it would help protect the country by knowing that, in fact, our president was compromised.”

This isn’t the first time Republicans have been accused of blocking an avenue of investigation.
Earlier this week, Schiff revealed that Republicans blocked Russian spy Maria Butina from testifying in an effort to protect the NRA. As we all now know, Butina infiltrated the NRA and helped the right-wing organization funnel $30 million into Trump’s 2016 campaign.
If Republicans are so willing to protect the NRA by making sure Butina couldn’t testify, it’s not a stretch to believe they would block an effort to find out if Russia has compromising material on Trump in order to hide Trump’s treachery. Because if the Russians were laundering money through Trump’s company, there is no way that he didn’t know about it. And these kinds of crimes would completely discredit Republican efforts to kill the Russia investigation.
