It has been said that President Donald Trump lives in his own little fantasy world where everything is great, he’s constantly adored, and nothing bad ever happens. And that’s even truer as we draw ever closer to the midterm election.
On Monday, as he was preparing to leave for a trip to Florida, Trump proved that not only is Trump in his own world, but that world is located in a solar system tens of millions of light years away from any semblance of reality.
Trump stopped long enough to speak with reporters gathered on the White House lawn, and he proclaimed:
“I think a lot of Democrats are going to vote Republican because I have many friends that are Democrats. The main base of the Democrats have shifted so far left that we’ll end up being Venezuela. This country would end up being Venezuela. I think a lot of Democrats are going to be voting Republican on November 6th.”
First of all, that makes zero sense, if only because Trump doesn’t have “many friends that are Democrats.” He has no real friends, as has been reported by numerous Trump biographers over the years. He has sycophants and people who like to be seen with him because he was once a reality TV star.
Secondly, it seems highly unlikely that any true Democrat could ever bring themselves to cast a ballot for any candidate who says he or she wants to help Trump carry out his far right-wing agenda. That kind of crossover voting almost never happens, especially in a midterm election when you have an incumbent president as historically unpopular as Trump.
Perhaps we should be thankful that the president is so confident, because it means that lots of GOP voters may think there’s no need to show up and vote in the midterm since all those Democrats are planning to cast their votes for Trump.
As he repeatedly proves with nearly everything he says or does, Donald Trump is completely out of touch with reality. But reality is about to hit him and his party with a massive dose of electoral karma.
