Senator Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) demolished his own legacy and cratered his own potential presidential run on Friday by admitting that he will vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, proving that he is not a decent Republican after all.

“Unless something big changes, I don’t see what would,” Flake told reporters when asked if he is voting for Kavanaugh to be confirmed despite Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her in 1982 and similar sexual misconduct allegations from multiple women.

When asked if Kavanaugh will be confirmed, he simply said, “I would think so.”

Twitter erupted in outrage over the news.

For months, Flake has been apparently pretending that he cares about decency and morality as he delivered remarks denouncing Trump on the Senate floor and elsewhere. But time and time again, he has done nothing but vote for Trump’s agenda as he himself became the target of Trump’s belittling insults.

Flake had this one final chance to stand up to Trump and prove that he is a man of true conservative principles, ethics, and decency — And he failed miserably. Any chance he had of presenting himself as an alternative to Trump in 2020 is gone. He is a coward and Trump enabler who only pretended to care about decency and morality in the name of political expediency. It turns out that Trump was right about him all along. He’s nothing but a flake and a loser who will never be able to win an election ever again.

And he only has himself to blame.
