Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell apparently lied when he said he believed Roy Moore’s victims

In November, McConnell called for the Alabama GOP Senate candidate to leave the race in the wake of allegations made by several women, including one who says she was only 14-years-old when Moore sexually assaulted her.

McConnell said:

“I think he should step aside. I believe the women.”

But during an appearance on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, McConnell changed his tune.

McConnell said:

“I think we’re going to let the people of Alabama decide. I’ve already said in the past that I thought this was a matter that would have to be considered by the [ethics] committee. Ultimately, it would be up to them to make that decision.”

McConnell had been hinting that Moore could be expelled from the Senate if he were to win the race, but now, even an ethics investigation could be out of the question, especially since Republicans control the committee. That means while Senator Al Franken is being investigated for sexual misconduct and could very well be ousted from office, Republicans will ignore the sexual assault and child molestation allegations against Moore. That makes them hypocrites.

When asked if he believes Moore should be in the Senate, McConnell repeated himself.

“I’m going to let the people of Alabama make the call. The election has been going on a long time, there has been a lot of discussion about it. They will make the decision a week from Tuesday.”

McConnell even avoided answering whether he still believes the women.

“Well, my job is to be the majority leader of the Senate. We have jurisdiction over these matters when there is a senator accused of some wrongdoing. We will handle this in the Senate when it comes to senators’ alleged behavior.”

This proves that Republicans never really believed Moore’s accusers. They merely said they did to make it look like they were on the right side of the issue. Now, it’s clear they were lying. If Ry Moore becomes a senator, you can bet Republicans are going to pretend the allegations never happened. They are going to work with a pedophile gladly, and that’s absolutely disgraceful.
