Donald Trump wants us all to believe that George Papadopoulos was nothing more than a “coffee boy” for the campaign. That claim just went down in flames.
Papadopoulos was a foreign policy adviser with the Trump campaign during the 2016 Election. He made contact with Russian officials and informed senior campaign officials such as Attorney General Jeff Sessions about it. But it also appears that he had working relationships with Steve Bannon and Michael Flynn, which would place him at the top level of the campaign.
During an interview with ABC News on Friday, Papadopoulos’ fiancee Simona Mangiante spoke out about his contacts with foreign officials and how important he was in the Trump campaign.
“George is very loyal to his country,” Mangiante said. “He is already on the right side of history. I think he will make a big difference.”
Indeed, he has made a big difference. He pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI which is exactly what Michael Flynn did recently. And his claims about Sessions caused the Attorney General to repeatedly and conveniently “not recall” many details about the contact with Russian officials and his contact with Papadopoulos. It was so ridiculous that Saturday Night Live spoofed it.
Far from a “coffee boy,” Papadopoulos “set up meetings with leaders all over the world” and was “constantly in touch with high-level officials in the campaign,” including Bannon and Flynn. Mangiante claims she knows this to be true because she has personally seen the correspondence between them and her fiance.
And most damning of all is her claim that Papadopoulos “never took any initiative, as far as I know, [that was] unauthorized. All the initiatives had [the] blessing of the campaign.”
Here’s the video of her remarks as shown by Morning Joe.
This is the kind of development that could pose serious problems for Donald Trump. Mangiante mentioned that there is hard evidence that Papadopoulos was in close contact with senior campaign officials like he claimed. And she has seen that evidence, which is probably now in the hands of Mueller and his investigation.
Mueller would not have arrested Papadopoulos if he were just a mere “coffee boy” with no real importance to the campaign. Clearly, he was far more important and Trump doesn’t want anyone to believe it because he is scared of what he knows.
