Lordy, not only are there tapes, there appears to be nearly 200 of them!
President Donald Trump’s attorney/shill Rudy Giuliani revealed on Face the Nation Sunday that Trump’s former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen made at least 183 recordings of conversations:
“Let me see if I can make it about as clear as possible. We know of something like 183 unique conversations on tape. One is with the president of the United States. That’s the three-minute one involving the [payment to former Playboy model Karen McDougal].”
Giuliani then tried to suggest that the president himself of only on one of the 183 tapes:
“There are 12 others — maybe 11 or 12 others — out of the 183 in which the president is discussed at any length by Cohen, mostly with reporters.”
Considering how frequently both Trump and his representatives lie, that could be true or a complete fabrication.
Finally, Giuliani had this to say regarding the remaining tapes, which are now in the custody of the FBI:
“He didn’t know about the payments to [Stormy Daniels or Karen McDougal] when it happened, that he only found out later. Cohen made [the payments], not for the campaign. He didn’t like the campaign, he said very derogatory things about the campaign. He said I only made it because I personally love the president and Melania. Which takes it right out of the campaign contribution arsenal.”
Again, we have to wonder if a word of what Rudy says can be believed. There may be five other recordings where Trump discusses in great detail how the women are to be paid off. There’s just no way this administration can be believed until they provide proof, which seems unlikely.
Right now, Trump and his legal team seem to be in damage control mode, trying their best to get out in front of the Cohen tapes. But with each detail of previously unreleased tapes, the story will again jump to the front page and become the main topic of discussion.
Spin away, Rudy. All the spinning in the world isn’t going to mitigate the mess your client is in.
