A Louisiana school board is getting flak after asimply for questioning the superintendent’s pay. Middle School English teacher Deyshia Hargrave was handcuffed, manhandled and arrested by a city marshal Monday night in Abbeville, Louisiana. Hargrave was arrested on one count of the always bogus arresting arrest and one count of remaining on premises after being forced to leave. She later posted bond.
The ugly incident arose during a board meeting in which Hargrave and other teachers attended, including Superintendent Jerome Puyau. Hargrave was arrested after questioning a massive discrepancy in pay between teachers and the superintendent. The issue was Puyau was making an impressive $110,000 a year, with an expected bonus to bring give him $38,000 more, in such a short amount of time while teachers pay stagnated at around $49,000 a year. This is yet another instance in which educators get treated like crap while bloated administration gets pampered.
Roughly minutes after telling the Vermilion Parish School Board that teachers are scared of speaking out, Hargrave soon found herself in roughed up and in handcuffs. for simply expressing expressed outrage with the plan to give the superintendent a raise. A deputy city marshal stepped in to escort Hargrave out, but moments later, she could be heard screaming from the hall.
A superintendent or any person or getting any type of raise I feel like is a slap in the face to all the teachers,” Hargrave said.
Board member Laura Lebeouf claims teachers in the district haven’t had a raise in a decade and found the treatment of Hargrave to be disgusting.
“What happened here tonight, the way that females are treated in Vermilion Parish….I have never seen a man removed from this room,” Lebeouf said.
The Vermilion Parish School board and the city prosecutor say they are not moving forward with charges against Hargrave, but many teachers want to know why she was arrested in the first place. We all know that free speech is under assault in this country under Trump, but apparently, it’s pouring out on the local level.
Another interesting note … Below we have two versions of the event. The first is Fox News’s coverage, which is highly edited and gets cut off before Juan Williams can make his point. The cut-off is so obvious that one anchor even comments that the report should have been finished before being interrupted.
The second video is the full footage of the event. It is easy to see that she never once is a “threat” to anyone yet is thrown to the ground and dragged out of the building in handcuffs.
Both videos are tragic in their own ways. Check them out below:
