Donald Trump wanted to be on the cover of Time Magazine. So, they gave him what he wanted. He’s just not going to like it.
To mark the first full year of Trump’s presidency, Time commissioned artist Edel Rodriguez to create a cover that simply defines “Year One.”
And he did not disappoint.
Using Trump’s hair as the focal point, Rodriguez sought to depict Trump’s first year in office as a wildfire that engulfs and destroys everything it touches.
Hence, Trump appears to be screaming while his hair represents flames reaching out uncontrollably to burn down everything that made our country great.
Here’s the cover via Twitter.

Indeed, Trump has tried to undermine American institutions at every turn. He began by letting Russia off the hook for interfering in our democratic process in 2016. He encouraged the Russians to hack our political institutions for his own gain. He has viciously attacked the media for telling the truth about him, only to add the FBI and the Justice Department to his enemies list. He has allowed corporations and wealthy individuals to raid the Treasury, done significant harm to healthcare, scaled back national parks and monuments to open them up to mining and drilling, and has attacked the judiciary every time our third branch of government doesn’t take his side.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, and it will only get worse as Trump intends to take aim at Social Security and Medicare while continuing to weaken our influence in the United Nations and around the world.
In an interview with Time, Rodriguez explained his design.
“We used to live where the United States was a pretty steady country, and now you wake up every day and try to figure out where’s the next fire, where do we have to go, what do we have to try to contain,” Rodriguez said. “It’s sort of this President that you’re always trying to contain, like a wildfire that’s moving from one place to the other at all times.”
He’s right, of course.
Trump is erratic and petty and you never really know what or whom he is going to attack next. All we know is that he is going to lash out. He is going to throw temper tantrums. And the United States is going to be worse off for it.
Just as real wildfires are burning California to the ground, Trump is trying to burn America down to the ground and the Constitution with it. The frightening part is that he’s only been in office for one year, and one can only imagine the horrors he will perpetrate on this country as he enters year two. He does, after all, control the nuclear codes. Next year, Time Magazine’s cover could very well feature Trump holding a globe set ablaze with mushroom clouds rising from the destruction he has brought upon us.
