President Donald Trump lashed out at Ohio Governor John Kasich on Monday by accusing him of “tamping down enthusiasm” for Republican congressional candidate Troy Balderson in response to Kasich’s analysis of the close special election last week.

“There’s no question that people sent a message to Republicans,” Kasich told Chuck Todd on “Meet The Press” Sunday morning, noting that people are tired of Trump’s policies and the divisions he is sowing. “It was a vote on what people thought about Trump.”

Here’s the video via YouTube.

Well, Trump apparently heard about what Kasich said, so he attacked him on Twitter.

First of all, Kasich backed Balderson in the race against Democratic opponent Danny O’Connor. He could have just as easily not endorsed him because of Trump’s support. After all, Kasich is a frequent Trump critic.

Furthermore, Balderson has not even won the race yet, despite what Trump claims. The New York Times reports that the race is still “too close to call with 3,435 provisional ballots that have yet to be counted.”

Balderson only leads by just a little over 1,500 votes, a mere 0.8 percent margin. A recount would be triggered by a 0.5 percent margin.

So, in no way did Balderson achieve a “big win.”

The Ohio 12th congressional district has been dominated by Republicans over the last nine decades. Trump himself won the district by 11 points in 2016.

So, Republicans should have won this special election by a wide margin. But they failed to do so because Trump’s popularity among Republicans is waning and Democrats are fired up.

Trump can claim all he wants that Balderson “won,” this race is really just another big loss for Trump and his fragile ego.
