During a government shutdown in 2013, while Barack Obama was still president, Donald Trump was asked on Fox News who was to blame for the impasse in Washington. He replied:

“Well, if you say who gets fired it always has to be the top. I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president’s the leader. And he’s got to get everybody in a room and he’s got to lead.

“So I really think the pressure is on the president.”

Now, however, with Trump in the White House and his party in control of both houses of Congress, Trump is trying to blame the latest shuttering of the government on…Democrats.

Saturday morning, just hours after the Senate failed to pass a continuing resolution which would have kept the government running, Trump went on Twitter and started hurling accusations:

As with most things Trumpian, the president’s rage is misplaced. Five Republicans — including Rand Paul (KY) and Mike Lee (UT) — voted against the temporary spending bill. The GOP needed 60 votes for passage, but they were only able to muster 51 affirmative votes. Where is Trump’s rage against his own party?

Also absent from Trump’s angry tweets is the fact that some Democrats — 5 total — voted with Republicans to keep federal operations running.

It didn’t take long for others on social media to remind Trump that on the first anniversary of his inauguration, there hasn’t been much “winning” like he promised:

What Trump is probably most upset about is the fact that he had to cancel his planned trip to Mar-a-Lago this weekend where he was going to celebrate his first year in office and the fact that he managed to make it without being arrested or impeached.

So much damn winning.
